Restoring classic cars with modern upgrades

Except on occasions, it's hard to imagine a classic car daily driven in its original condition. Eugene Bernshtam, if not busy in real estate, restores classic models that are suited to today's road standards. Aside from the reinvented look, a restored classic has all the same comforts as today's newer models. Here are some of the few modern upgrades that a classic car needs to have before heading out on the highway.

Electronic ignition upgrade - This replaces the traditional breaker point ignition system, especially on cars built before the 1980s. Electronic ignition improves fuel efficiency, gives faster and smoother acceleration, reduces exhaust emissions, and more.

Power steering upgrade - Driving a classic car without power steering can ultimately wear you down, especially when driving along with tight and crowded places or simply making a U-turn. Power steering helps you to drive smoothly and safely, explains Eugene Bernshtam.

Disc brakes - Traditionally, the brakes on a classic car depend primarily on drum brakes. These are fitted at the rear or both ends of the vehicle. However, the friction causes these to wear out quickly. On the other hand, upgrading to disc brakes gives significant braking power. It is less likely to fade, is self-adjusting, and has worry-free maintenance.

Air conditioning - If comfort needs a major upgrade, it must be the air conditioning system. Modern cars use the R134 air conditioning system. This system has four main components: evaporator, compressor, expansion valve, and condenser.

If not busy in real estate, Eugene Bernshtam is heavily involved in auto restoration and is among the Illinois Secretary of State's Licensed Auto Dealers. He is also a member of the Ferrari Club of America and the Lamborghini Club of America. Over the years, he has received many awards in classic automotive judged concourses.
